About Freedom in Painting

Find your freedom - painting courses in Cornwall and Kent.

The concept of ‘Freedom in Painting’ is that as artists rather than being in awe of the subject, to move our practice forward, we need to invent, challenge and surprise ourselves and transform the subject into something that is ours, utilizing all our knowledge and skills in the pursuit of an idea.

"What I’m trying for is something that works and is true to the subject. You’re working with the (two-dimensional) canvas but also trying to create a design that works in space. At times it seems almost impossible. To do it you have to invent, to struggle, until you end up with something that can go out in the world and stand up for itself."
