At long last, a tribute to both Matisse's 'Red Studio' and Peter Lanyon's 'Porthleven, in the same piece, without doubt the two most influential paintings in my work. The studio is the Old Lifeboat House in Porthleven, where many of the paintings in the series were made, and is painted, of course , in Venetian Red, the key red in Matisse's painting. It brings control and precision to the painting.
